Photographing this time in a woman’s life is an emotionally charged moment and you need to treat her and the shoot with a high level of respect and delicacy.
Keeping it Simple

Remind your subject gently that you are here to capture not only her beauty but to capture the unseen star of the show…the baby.
Not overcomplicating your photo shoot with a lot of props or fancy tricks will make her happier in the end and it will be easier on you. Simply having a plan laid out, knowing how you are going to approach the shoot will benefit you in the long run.
Remember, she isn’t a bouncy nude model who makes her living doing this, she is a pregnant woman and you need to keep her safe and confidant.
Do’s and Don’ts
As mentioned above, there are only a few variants that make pregnancy photos differ from glamour or boudoir photographer.

- Always consider the framing of her bump, it is the star of the show. This goes for lighting and posing.
- She may instinctively stand with her feet apart to support her new heavier weight, ask her to stand with her knees together to give a feminine silhouette.
Remember though: let her take as many breaks as she needs to rest! Always ask how comfortable she is! - Don’t forget Dad! Though it seems cliché, the father’s hands coming around to either hold Mom’s stomach or cover her breasts is a winning pregnancy photo. It combines the perfect alluring and sweet factors that your clients will love.
- Not going overboard is key! Don’t try to take highly artistic or avant-garde photos of your model. Unless she requests it, most moms are going to want sweet and beautiful memories of being pregnant not "your vision". In addition, remember that you of course you are capturing the magical sexiness of a pregnant woman, but balance it out with soft and sweet touches so she doesn’t feel embarrassed.
